Mission Report #27

mood: uncomfortableuncomfortable

[The transmission is faint and staticky, fading in from unintelligibility into something clearer.]

...not really sure. It's still the City, but... it's different. Or I'm different. If it weren't for the ticking I'd almost think...

It is not time compression.

[A quiet, abbreviated 'hn' sound from Squall] I guess you'd know.

Shiva says it's the "Shadow City," whatever that is. That monster's stare threw me here somehow. I haven't been able to find a way back out yet.

You should not stay long. This plane is dangerous for humans.

Yeah, well, I'm trying. If anybody's got any ideas, I'm...

[ooc: backdated to last night ish; Squall's stuck in the Shadow City thanks to the Catoblepas. Blue text is Shiva - based on the explanation for the Shadow City, it's probably where Guardian Forces hang out when they're junctioned, so she gets to make helpful commentary.]

Mission Report #25

mood: determineddetermined

[As far as the eye can see, there is nothing but ocean, and sky, and a long straight railway bridge running from one horizon to the other with no end in sight. To the west, the bridge vanishes into the setting sun; to the east, it disappears into gathering darkness. the moon that hangs in the sky overhead is enormous, occupying so much of the sky that it's difficult to find a direction in which it isn't visible, and seems almost translucent at the edges where the sky is still light.

There's no sound but the steady white noise of moving water. The edges of the bridge are lined with lampposts, but none are lit.

Between the rails, back turned to the receding sunset, Squall walks steadily onward. He has railway grit on his boots and his gunblade sheathed at his hip, and he's carrying a girl piggyback-style on his back with her arms draped loosely over his shoulders, braced forward to balance her weight.

One foot in front of the other, he keeps walking.]

Mission Report #24

Dec. 23rd, 2009 | 04:26 pm
mood: melancholymelancholy

I think I would have liked my mother.

I never got to meet her. Not really. I barely even got to see anything of her... just a couple of dreams, thanks to Sis. I hardly know anything about her, except that she was good with flowers.

But she seemed... sensible. Down to earth. The kind of person who knows what they can do, and what they can't do. Who does everything they can and doesn't waste time trying to do things they can't. That kind of person.

She lived in a little town called Winhill. She ran a pub there, and grew flowers, and I don't think she ever really wanted much more than that.

I look like her, a little. I don't know if I really take after her much, aside from that. But... I think I would have liked having her as a mother.

Her name was Raine. If she'd survived, things would have been a lot different.

...I don't even know why I'm talking about this.

Mission Report #23

[Squall looks a bit the worse for wear - bruised, disheveled, and rather singed. But generally in one piece. He looks a little cranky, but it's Squall; he always looks a little cranky.]

I'm back. I get the feeling I missed a lot. Anybody wanna fill me in?

[There's a brief pause as he glances away at nothing in particular, grumbling mostly to himself.]

...pain in the ass. They could at least let me finish one thing before...

[Then a shake of his head, and a bit of a grimace.]

--if anybody needed me while I was gone - sorry.

[ooc: So my brief hiatus turned out a lot longer than expected. I'm retroactively declaring that Squall got yanked from the city for a partial Dissidia-canon update; my apologies if that causes awkwardness for anyone.]

Mission Report #22

Nov. 3rd, 2009 | 10:11 am
location: the beach
mood: uncomfortableuncomfortable

[From the looks of things, Squall probably intended this to be voice, but, well, he's a little preoccupied. He's sitting on the beach, and the video displays only a partial view of his booted feet on the sand, and his sheathed gunblade where he set it down next to him, and a more distant view of the ocean and the Lighthouse.]

I just can't get my head around it. Those people I talked to this weekend... can there really be more than one of me? Not just from a different time, but completely separate... in different worlds, living the same life...

Isn't once enough?

And if there's going to be another war, like those guys said - will it be me fighting? Or... one of the other versions.

I want it to be me. And I don't know why.

...how bent do you have to be to want a war? I don't even know what it's about. Chaos, Cosmos... none of it means anything to me.

But I think about there being some other me out there - like that one that I talked to - fighting in some other war that I don't even know about... I can't stand this feeling.

...like I don't have enough up ahead of me to worry about.

Maybe that's it, though. I know how to fight a war. It's what I'm trained for. The rest of it...

Or maybe it's just that I want to be the Squall those guys were looking for.

[ooc: Open for action if anyone wants to happen by, in addition to the usual Network tags.]

I remember this. Where do all these people even come from?

...guess I can't just stay home today. I'll be on duty. But anybody who tries to hug me without warning is gonna get suckerpunched.

If you see something on fire that shouldn't be and you don't have a way to get it under control yourself, contact me immediately. We have enough problems in this place without burning it down.

Shin... thanks for checking up on me the other day. I think that's two that I owe you now. You should probably talk to Captain Holly Short about that interview for the police force; things are still kind of disorganized, but we're working on it. I'll see what I can do.
